Edra Mae Robinson passed away surrounded by family, on January 30, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
She was born on September 5, 1928 to Charles and Bertha (Ola) Whicker in Appanoose County Iowa. On July 24, 1945 she was united in marriage to DeWayne Robinson. Her life's work was homemaker and mother of seven until 1973 when DeWayne passed away. At that time she bought Angel's Café in Moravia and ran it very successfully throughout the 70's. In 1980 she became the head cook at the Moravia Junior/Senior High School where she became known as Grandma Edra to hundreds of kids. She is most famous to all for her caramel cinnamon rolls and serving the "World's Biggest" tenderloins at her café.
After retiring from the Moravia Schools she continued to cook for various community and school events and also catered many weddings in the area.
Edra's passions in life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed going to their sporting events, rodeos, and car races. She set aside a day regularly for a "Girl's Day Out" that she spent with her four daughters and granddaughters. She enjoyed attending concerts and playing penny slots at the Lakeside Casino in Osceola with her family.
Edra is survived by six children: Butch (Barb) Robinson of Moravia, Iowa, Don (Connie) Robinson of Moravia, Iowa, Pam (Tary) Huff of Moravia, Iowa, Janice (Dave) McDonough of Moravia, Iowa, Bonnie Essary of Moravia, Iowa, and Tammy Robinson (Bill) of Exline, Iowa; one sister Reverta Brown of Albia, Iowa; and many, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband DeWayne; a son Craig Allen; her parents and a sister, Bonnie Jessadine Polson.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia, Iowa with Pastor Terry Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery, south of Moravia. A visitation will be held Wednesday at Lange Funeral Home from 2-8 PM, with the family present from 6-8. Memorials have been established to the Edra Mae Robinson Memorial Fund and may be given to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
