Love Emblem

Phyllis Elaine (White) Henderson of Marion, Iowa formerly of Moravia, Iowa passed away at the age of 73 on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at St Luke's Hospice Care Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She was born August 10, 1942 in Mason City, Iowa to Lowell and Virginia (Bohen) Peterson. She attended Mason City High School and Kirkwood Community College.

Phyllis married Robert LeRoy White Jr. on January 1, 1960. On July 12,1983, Bob passed away. From this 23-year marriage, came the seven J's: John, Jenny (Billy), Jackie (Rick), Jeff (Cherie), Janet (Tony), Joanna (Mark), and James (Lylah).

Phyllis remarried to Lloyd William Henderson, Sr. on August 10, 1989. Lloyd matched the seven J's with seven of his own. Judy (Terry), Lloyd Jr. (Sandy), Rebecca (Robert), Ruby, Robert, Vickie, and Lindale.

They spent the last 25 years together further expanding their lineage by caring for a bundle of grand kids, great grand kids, and great-great grand kids; including several nephews, nieces and several extended children and their kids.

Bob and Phyllis operated the Hilltop Skating rink in Moravia, Iowa. They were devoted members of their community who took pride in being Moravians.

Phyllis had many skill-sets. She was a passionate homemaker, baker, and loved to spread the holiday spirit: decorating her home with joy. Not to mention she was an avid fan cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs.

Her children were always her priority especially when it came to her grandchildren. She truly enjoyed being a mom to her growing family. She was kind as she was caring.

Her guilty pleasures were talking on the phone and watching her tv shows: CSI (Crime Scene Investigation), Bluebloods, Criminal Minds, Big Bang Theory, Mike and Molly, and Walker Texas Ranger.

Phyllis' spiritual beliefs were not based on one religion. She was a confirmed catholic before she was baptized; at the Baptist Church in Yarmouth, Iowa.
Survived by her husband; Lloyd Henderson Sr., her children; the six J's, a younger sister; Carolyn Ann (Richard) Trappe of Indiana, Lloyd's children, her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Proceeded in death by her parents; Lowell and Virginia Peterson, parent-in-laws; Robert Sr., Vi, and Teresa Henderson, her first husband; Bob White, her eldest son; John White, step-daughter; Lindale Slight a daughter-in-law; Teresa, two sons-in-law's; Gale and Rick, and nephew; Todd and her lifelong friend; Drew.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7 PM, Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the Grace United Methodist Fellowship Hall in Moravia, Iowa with Pastor Cindy Finn officiating. A visitation will take place at the Grace United Methodist Fellowship on Thursday before the service from 5-7 PM. Lange Funeral Home of Moravia, Iowa has been entrusted with caring for the family.
