Ozetta "Zettie" McElderry, age 92 of Exline, Iowa passed away Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Monroe Care Center in Albia.

She was born to Clarence and Roxie (Shelton) Mathes in Graysville, Missouri on August 23, 1923. Zettie was united in marriage to Darwin "Darb" McElderry on January 21, 1946 in Centerville, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 12, 2009.

Zettie had a passion for both wallpapering and painting, hobbies she engaged in throughout her lifetime. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening and tending to her flowers. Zettie also liked canning, baking, and cooking meals for family and friends. Her family congregated to her home every Halloween to enjoy her famous popcorn balls. Zettie also made wonderful homemade ice cream.

She was active in the Exline community throughout her lifetime. Zettie took great pride in assisting the Exline Community Center with numerous events throughout the years, especially the meals provided to the public.

Zettie is survived by six grandchildren, Pam Mathes of Exline, Iowa, Betty Hendrix of Washburn, Missouri, Robyn (Brian) Hamilton of Knoxville, Iowa, Brandon McElderry of Exline, Iowa, Kem (Ron) Dixon of Albia, Iowa and Michelle Kaster of Knoxville, Iowa; fourteen great grandchildren; fourteen great, great grandchildren; and three brothers, Dain (Eloise) Mathes of Exline, Iowa, Don (Shirley) Mathes of Centerville, Iowa, and Herb Mathes of Exline, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Darb; four children, Roger McElderry, Floyd Mathes, Larry McElderry, and Dale McElderry; two grandsons, Chad McElderry and Mike Mathes; a granddaughter, Lorriane Mathes; a great, great granddaughter, Jayci Shrum; two sisters, Goldie Sleeth and Loeta McElderry; and a brother, Edwin Mathes.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Lange Funeral Home & Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Brian Hargrave officiating. A visitation will take place from 10AM-11AM prior to the service on Tuesday. A luncheon will be held at the Exline Community Center following interment at Exline Cemetery in Exline. Memorials have been established to the Exline Recreation Committee and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544. Condolences may be shared online at
