Floyd A. Shinn, age 94, of Centerville, Iowa, died August 8, 2015 at the Centerville Nursing and Rehab, Centerville.

He was born October 15, 1920 in Livonia, Missouri, the son of Eldress and Myrtle (Garr) Shinn. Floyd entered the United States Army on October 19, 1942. He served his country faithfully in the 127th infantry during World War II. Floyd was honorably discharged on November 4, 1945, with the rank of Sergeant.

Floyd was united in marriage to Violet Parcel in Unionville, Missouri on February 11, 1946. The couple celebrated thirty five years of marriage until Violet's passing due to cancer.

He was employed in the construction field throughout his lifetime. Through cement work, as well as numerous other handy man jobs, Floyd always worked hard to provide for his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather-family was always the number one priority in his life.

Floyd was an excellent A1 mechanic with extreme passion for working on cars. He also enjoyed fishing, as well as quilting. In his earlier years, while residing in Colorado, Floyd was a deacon of the Divide, Colorado Christian Church. Most recently, he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seymour, Iowa.

He is survived by his two children, Sheila Ryan of Divide, Colorado, and Ray Shinn of Colorado; five grandchildren, Christina (Jeff) Ryan-Shore of Denver Colorado, Paul Shinn, Mark Shinn, Julie Shinn, and Sarah Shinn all of California; two great grandchildren, Landon Shore and Allie Shore, as well as twelve other great grandchildren; two brothers, Benjamin Shinn of Davenport, Iowa, and Frank (Ellie) Shinn of Davenport, Iowa; three sisters, Geraldine Smith of Davenport, Iowa, Goldene Orr of Davenport, Iowa, and Inez Shinn of Centerville, Iowa; two nieces, Kathy (Wayne) Shinn of Plano, Iowa, and Judy (James) Martin of Plano, Iowa.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Violet Parcel Shinn; two brothers, Lloyd Shinn and Orville Shinn; three sisters, Irene Harris, Mary Lowry, and Lucille Brookhart.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm, Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Micaiah Stanley officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Sharon Chapel Cemetery, Centerville. A visitation will take place on Thursday at the funeral home, with the family greeting friends from 11am-1 pm.
