Dorothy "Dottie" Cornett, age 101 of Centerville, Iowa, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.

She was born in Appanoose County, Iowa on September 19, 1914, the daughter of Edward and Muriel (Fowler) Collins. Dottie graduated from Centerville High School. She served her country faithfully in the Navy during World War II. Dottie was united in marriage to George Cornett on November 5, 1945.

Dottie engaged in numerous hobbies throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed knitting, especially gloves, scarves, hats, as well as baby booties and mittens. Dottie also enjoyed numerous outdoor activities, especially fishing and bird watching. She was a longtime member of the Rathbun Area Bird Club. Dottie was also a lifetime member of the Mystic American Legion.

She is survived by two nieces, Judy Blankenship and Loretta Allen; two nephews, Mark Hancox and Terry Hancox; three great nephews, Randy Nutt, Scott Hancox, and Grant Hancox; and two great nieces, Vicki King and Hope Hancox.

Dottie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; and two sisters, Mildred McDowell and Goldie Hancox.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, with Reverend Allen Cooper officiating. A visitation will take place Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, with the family present from 6-8PM. A burial with military rites will follow the funeral service at Haines Cemetery, north of Centerville. Memorials have been established to the Rathbun Area Bird Club and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
