Army Emblem

Andrew (Andy) Franklin Lowe, of Unionville, Missouri, passed away February 1st, 2016 in Columbia, Missouri, just 16 days away from his 70th birthday.

Andy was born in Centerville, Iowa, February 17th, 1946 to Floyd and Wanda Lowe. He attended Putnam County Schools until graduating in 1964. After graduation, he moved to Kansas City, Mo and attended Diesel Mechanic School. In 1965, Andy was drafted into the US Army and served until 1967 as a helicopter machine gunner and mechanic. While serving in Vietnam, he received a National Defense Service Medal and a Bronze Star.

Andy married Deborah Torrey on August 16th, 1970 in Unionville, MO. To this union, 3 children were born. Christy (Bobbie) Brooks, Nathan (Ashley) Lowe, both of Unionville and Rhonda (Jeff) Peek of Pollock.

Andy worked in maintenance at Union Carbide and then started driving over the road, owning his own semi. He retired in 2015 from driving a feed truck for Premium Standard Farms Feed Mill in Lucerne Mo.

Andy enjoyed racing in his younger days, working on cars, farming, drinking coffee at the sale barn, and cruising with his wife in their Camaro. Family was the most important thing to Andy. His greatest joy was spending time with his kids and grandkids. Most summers were spent on the farm with grandsons tagging along behind him, plus his best buddy, Roscoe (his dog). He loved teaching the kids how to drive the tractors, work in the hayfield, and take care of the cattle. In the past few years, Andy and Debbie began camping, taking a yearly trip to the Iowa State Fair along with grandkids, going to Hannibal, and, just last summer, South Dakota.

Andy was a wonderful husband, father, and grandpa. His orneriness, humor, and stubbornness lives on in kids and grandkids.

Andy is survived by his wife and children, and grandkids, Garrett and Dylan Brooks, Emma Lowe, Darrin Lowe, Jenna Peek, and Gunner Peek. His sister Sharon Steele and husband Gerald. Sister-in-laws Shari Peters and husband Dave of Humboldt, Iowa and Cheryl Hyland of Nebraska. Also surviving is his Aunt Grace Scott of Centerville along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents along with his uncle-Aaron Scott, nephew-John Steele, brother in law- Rick Torrey, father in law- Bill Torrey, and mother in law- Kathleen Smith. Also preceding him was his uncles, James Lowe and wife Rosina, Doc Lowe and wife Ruth, Harold Lowe and wife Lorraine, and Claude Lowe and wife Velma.
