Marietta McCannon, age 88 of Moravia, Iowa passed away Monday, February 01, 2016 at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville.

Marietta was born May 1, 1927 to D.D. (Dot) and Mary (Matthews) Longley in Centerville, Iowa. She first attended school in Udell, Iowa, and later graduated from Centerville High School. Marietta was united in marriage to George McCannon on May 25, 1947. In 1951 they purchased a farm 2 miles west of Moravia, and made that their home. They enjoyed the farm life with great neighbors, friends and family.

Marietta was known for her laugh and her love to visit. She was a wonderful cook and made the best fried chicken, mashed potatoes and egg noodles around. In her day, she enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, mushroom hunting, Bingo, the Iowa State Fair, and Rathbun Country Music Theater. She also loved to play pool and shuffle board. She won many trophies for both throughout the years. She also enjoyed the Moravia Saddle Club and was a 4-H leader. Marietta was also a member of the Mt. Ararat Church and attended the Main Station Church for years.

She is survived by her children, her son, Dale McCannon of Moravia, and her daughter, Sherry (John) Johnson of Moravia; three grandsons, John McCannon of Urbandale, Mark (Heather) McCannon of Mystic, and Jeff Johnson of Moravia; three great-grandchildren, Lucas McCannon, Rylie McCannon, and Camden George McCannon; her sister, Juanita (Longley) Coulson of Lancaster, PA.

Marietta was preceded in death by her parents, Dot and Mary Longley; her husband, George McCannon; an infant sister, Ruby Flodene; an infant grandson, Dale Johnson; and an infant great grandson, Nicholas McCannon.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, Iowa with Pastor Steve Houser officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Ararat Cemetery east of Centerville. A visitation will take place on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 6-8 PM.
