Virginia L. Meng, 82, a longtime resident of Centerville, IA, died Tuesday, December 15th, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA.

She was born on April 3rd, 1933 in Appleton, MN to Elizabeth (Chester) and Fred Waterfall. She graduated High School in Dawson MN and attended Mankato State University, majoring in Home Economics.

Virginia was a millinery buyer for a large department store in Minneapolis and an executive secretary for the President of Winchester Arms in New Haven, Connecticut. Upon returning to Minneapolis, she worked for Investment Diversified Services where she met her husband, James W. Meng. They married at The Little Brown Church in The Vail in Nashua, IA, Feb. 27th, 1961.

They moved from Minneapolis to Crosby, MN and then to Janesville, WI, before putting their roots down in Centerville in 1971 when they purchased Motel 60 & Villa. It has been a family run business ever since, now owned and operated by their son, Jeff Meng.

Virginia was active in the Welcome Wagon, Meals on Wheels, Ambassador's Club, Women's P.E.O, and a board member and chairperson at the Appanoose Country Club. And never forget, she was the Official Water meter reader for Golfview! Virginia was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Centerville. She was an avid golfer, bridge player and enjoyed playing the one arm bandits, plus a little cribbage.

Surviving her are the children: Stephany Ann Meng and her husband, Dr. Jerry Piering, their daughter, Jami and her husband, Jeremy Bennett; their children, Abigail, Jakob, and Zachary of Long Island, NY. Daughter, Jennifer Ann Cramer; her daughters, Madison and Melissa of Lee's Summit, MO. Son, Jeff W. Meng and Melissa Van Dusseldorp of Centerville, Jeff's daughter, Elizabeth and Melissa's son, River.

A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the First Presbyterian Church, 102 N. Main, Centerville, IA, 52544, and may be mailed directly to the Church or to Lange Funeral Home & Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
