Tribute & Message From The Family

Charles Ralph Turner, age 78 of Moravia, Iowa passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015 at his home.

He was born March 18, 1937 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Bert Alonzo and Dorothy (Broshar) Turner. Charlie graduated from Moravia High School in 1955. He later earned his Bachelor's degree in Engineering. He was united in marriage to Helen JoAnn Moore in Moravia, Iowa on March 23, 1958 and to this union of marriage, they were blessed with two children, Myra and Pam.

Charlie first began his engineering career with the State of Illinois Department of Transportation. The couple eventually returned to Moravia. Charlie merged with his father Bert, creating the family business, Turner & Son. The father-son team successfully owned and operated Turner & Son Funeral Home, Lumberyard, and Furniture Store for many years. Following his father's retirement, Charlie inevitably sold the businesses. He continued his working career with Wausau Homes, and later, Wick Homes, selling homes throughout the Moravia community.

Throughout his life, Charlie maintained a long and dedicated career of service to the Moravia community. After serving as city clerk for a time in the 1960s, he went on to become a city councilman during the early 1970s. Charlie left the city council for several years, only to return to the council in 2007 by reappointment in order to fill the vacancy left by the passing of a councilman. When that term was up, Charlie was re-elected to the current term he had been serving.

Charlie was a NASCAR and Indy Car enthusiast. He also loved cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Charlie also possessed a lifelong passion for music, including his management of two different country music bands.

Left to honor his memory are two children, Myra (Jerome) James of Johnston, Iowa and Pam (Steve) Palm of Grimes, Iowa; three grandchildren, Noah James, Ryley Palm, and Preston Palm; a sister, Nancy (Tom) Lowe of Crystal Lake, Illinois; a brother-in-law, William "Bill" (Janice) Moore of Melrose, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
