Mark Alan Garretson, age 47 of Bloomfield, Iowa, formerly of Centerville, Iowa, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2016.

He was born in Centerville, Iowa on October 9, 1968, the son of Jerry and Janet Jean (Richardson) Garretson. Mark graduated from Seymour High School in 1987. He continued his education at Iowa State University. Mark graduated from Buena Vista University with a bachelor's degree in Business. He was united in marriage to Rochelle Lawson on June 26, 2010.

Mark was a lifelong resident of Southern Iowa. He was employed with Rathbun Regional Water Association for nearly twenty three years as an accountant. Mark also obtained his Iowa real estate license in 2005 at which time he joined Action Realty/Iowa Realty. He later joined Weber Real Estate where he specialized in Sales & Marketing, relocations and property management. Mark also maintained the SFR (Short Sales & Foreclosure Resource) Certification. In 2014-2015 he was the President of the Rathbun Regional Board of Realtors, previously serving the past eight years as the board secretary and treasurer, as well as the MLS committee chairman. Mark also served on the board of directors for the Southeast Iowa Regional Board of Realtors.

In January of 2014 Mark graduated from the Missouri Auctioneer School, achieving the title of Colonel. Mark enjoyed his time as an auctioneer.

Mark treasured the opportunity to serve the community in a volunteer role as both a special deputy with the Appanoose County Sheriff's Office and a volunteer firefighter with the Centerville Fire Department.

Mark possessed many hobbies in his free time, including camping, woodworking, carpentry, tractor shows, and attending the Iowa State Fair. He was a member of the Plano Christian Church. Most importantly, he cherished the time he spent with his family and friends, especially his wife, Rochelle and his two children, Chelsea and Clay.

He is survived by his wife, Rochelle Garretson of Bloomfield, Iowa; two children, Chelsea Garretson (Fiancé, Virgil Shondel) and Clay Garretson both of Centerville, Iowa; his parents, Jerry and Jean Garretson of Centerville, Iowa; a brother, Kent (Jennifer) Garretson, and his children, Samuel Garretson and Julianna Garretson all of Andover, Kansas; his grandmother, Grace Scott of Centerville, Iowa; Father-in-law Junior Lawson and mother-in-law, Kay Lawson of Moulton, Iowa; Grandmothers, Christine White of Centerville, Iowa and Doris Lawson of Bloomfield, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Rhonda (Ronnie) Norton of Bloomfield, Iowa; brother in laws, Randy (Barb) Lawson of Bloomfield, Iowa, Ryan Lawson of Bloomfield, Iowa and Robert Lawson of West Lafayette, Indiana; nieces, Alyssa (Jason) Gardner of Moulton, Iowa and Drew Norton of Cedar Falls; Nephews, Travis (Jennifer) Knowler of Moulton, Iowa, and Dakota (Kayci) Knowler of Ankeny, Iowa; two great nieces and two great nephews.

Mark was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Carl and Cora Garretson; his grandfather, John Richardson; and a step grandfather, Alva Scott.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Friday, May 13, 2016 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, Iowa with Pastor Lloyd Johnston and Jeff Probasco officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset View Cemetery near Moulton, Iowa. A visitation will take place on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville from 10 AM-8PM, with the family greeting friends from 5-8 PM. Memorials have been established to the family of Mark Garretson and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544. I am writing this with a very heavy heart as today I realize a very dear friend has been taken away. Words cannot say what he meant to me and all of his family. Mark will be missed by many and will be forever in our hearts. Thank you Mark for being there for me. You will be forever loved.
