Larry Dean Wilson Obituary

Larry Dean Wilson, age 58, of Albia, Iowa, formerly of Moravia, Iowa, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2016 at his home.

He was born in Centerville, Iowa on February 25, 1958, the son of Billy G. and Berniece Anne (Van Dorin) Wilson. Larry graduated from Moravia High School in 1976.

After high school, Larry enrolled in computer courses at Marshalltown Community College. Following college, Larry resided in Des Moines. He later relocated to Iowa City, where he took a position working in the bank industry. Most recently, Larry resided in Albia.

Larry's greatest passion in life was music. His love of music reached its peak during his high school years with his involvement in the Moravia High School Music Department. Larry built many friendships through music during both his high school and adult years. He also continued to actively play as an adult. A talented trumpeter, Larry often played "Taps" during Memorial Day festivities. He also enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. Larry had a deep fondness for the musicians Johnny Cash and John Denver.

He was also an avid fan of the University of Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs.

Most importantly, Larry was a very caring person, always putting others first. He loved his family dearly and wanted more than anything to get back to the family farm he was raised on.

Larry is survived by his mother, Berniece Ann Hinton of Moravia, Iowa; four siblings, Sheila (Sam) Kirby of Moravia, Iowa, Carol (Steve) Dishman of Pella, Iowa, Donna (Dennis) Jackson of Centerville, Iowa, and Mark Wilson of Moravia, Iowa; his significant other, Diane Shannon of Iowa City, Iowa; nine nieces and nephews, Jeff (Kristy) Kirby, Joni (Kris) Hutchinson, Jennifer Argo, Brad Argo (Emily Wurst), Amanda (Dave) Webb, Josh (Haylee) Bell, Shannon Jackson (Randall Raskie), Heather Dishman, and Samantha Dishman; and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Billy G. Wilson; step-father, Kenneth Hinton; and a sister, Diane Wilson.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7 PM, Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia, Iowa with Rev. Cindy Finn officiating. A visitation will take place on Thursday at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia, with the family greeting friends from 5-7 PM. Burial will be held at a later date.
