Russell S. Swafford Obituary

Russell S. Swafford, age 91 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Wednesday, December 02, 2015 at the Centerville Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born in Centerville, Iowa on July 21, 1924, the son of Gus and Gwendolyn Swafford. Russell entered the United States Navy on November 4, 1943. He served his country faithfully during World War II. Russell was honorably discharged from the Navy on May 20, 1946. He later retired from the National Guard.

He received his education at the University of Iowa. Throughout his lifetime, Russell was employed with Job Services /Department of Human Services.
Russell was a past member of the VFW in Centerville. He enjoyed building model airplanes and cars in his free time. Russell also enjoyed cats.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mildred Davis; a nephew; and a brother-in-law, Tom Davis.

Graveside services with military rites are set for Monday, December 7, 2015 at 11AM at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. A visitation will take place Monday from 10-11AM at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville. Memorials have been established to the Centerville American Legion, Post #214 and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 South 18th Centerville, Iowa 52544.
