Rosemary Mikels, 78 of Centerville, Iowa passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Oct 10, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Rosemary was born on March 5th, 1937 in Centerville, Iowa, to Beulah(Boyer) Quick and Charles Quick. She attended Centerville High School. Rosemary was united in marriage to Martin (Whitey) Burkland in 1954, with this marriage came two daughters, Dana Carrillo, Paula (John) Wells. They were later divorced.

It was in 1976 she married Charles E. Miller, where she was blessed with three more daughters, Rachel (Miller) Collins, Dorothy (Miller) Sager, (Danny) and Heather Dawn Miller. Charles was later deceased.

In 1981 Rosemary married her life-long companion, Gerald E. Mikels and with this marriage, the two families became one, with the addition of Karen (Chester) Engle and Rodney Mikels (friend Sara Brummett).

Over the years Rosemary worked at the Moravia School as a cook, she was also employed at McGraw Edison Co, Chamberlin's Manufacturing, George and Nicks, and Carter Waters.

It was in 1985 that her and Gerald opened their home and hearts to children in need, by registering as Foster Parents of Iowa. This was not only a career for Rosemary, but her passion. Her satisfaction in life was being able to give her love and guidance to others and watch them succeed. Over the 22 years that she and Gerald opened their home, they were blessed with nearly 500 foster children. The love and compassion they showed earned them "Foster Parents of the Year Award" and several different volunteer of Iowa awards. Rosemary and Gerald also mentored parents to foster care licensure, and gave birth parents skills training for raising of their children. Her love didn't stop there, she continually gave to anyone in need, young or old.

She was known for her fried chicken, homemade chocolate chip cookies and the unforgettable sticky bun rolls. Holidays were a family tradition with Rosemary, she filled her home with too much food and opened the doors to anyone, family or not. She was also known for her talent of sewing over the years, for daughters, granddaughters and great-granddaughters.
Rosemary was given the nickname "Rosebud" from her son-in-law, Johnny, which has carried on throughout the years.

Rosemary is survived by her husband, Gerald Mikels; her daughters, Paula (John) Wells of Cincinnati, Iowa, Dana Carrillo of Centerville, Iowa, Rachel Collins of Numa, Iowa, Dorothy(Danny) Sager of Lafayette, Indiana; her step-children, Karen (Chester) Engle, Rodney Mikels (friend Sara Brummett); her sister, Maxine McKern of Winterset, Iowa; grandchildren, Jill Wells, Sabrina Wells, Angela(Justin)Beals, Lydia(Brett)Mihalovich all of Cincinnati, Iowa, Callie Collins, Tucker Collins, Cherody Shiltz, all of Centerville, Iowa, David Sager, Dawn Sager, DeAnna Sager, and Denae Sager all of Lafayette, Indiana; two special members of the family, Richard Williams of Trenton, Missouri and Angie Widmer of Clarkdale, Iowa; Great-grandchildren, Bradyn, Kennedee, Maddi, Rowdy, Harvester, and Blayne.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Heather Miller; special aunt, Mary Ball of Centerville, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2015 at the Faith United Methodist Church on Hwy 5 in Centerville, Iowa, with Pastor Joan Ervin and Danny Sager officiating. Burial will follow in the Main Station Cemetery, near Moravia, Iowa. A luncheon will follow the committal service at the Faith United Methodist Church in Centerville. A visitation will take place on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, with the family present from 6-8pm. Memorials have been designated to Iowa Kids Net of Appanoose County and can be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 South 18th Centerville, Iowa 52544. Rosemary was selfless person. She has touched so many people and was always available to be that "listening ear" and give her guidance. She aided in getting young people on the right path and that will never be forgotten. I know she has a special place in heaven. I am glad she was there to take me in during a time in my life when I was struggling. Thank you.

She accepted and loved everybody regardless of their circumstances, allowed hundreds of kids who had no home, to learn to accept themselves and be loved, sometimes for the first time. God will welcome Rosemary and love her as she loved all. My deepest sympathies.
